Every year, Keith Ulicki and Frank Ulicki II (the sons of Frank “Uke” Ulicki), Billy Lobacz, and the Uke’s employees lead a ride that is not just a tribute but a heartfelt connection to Uke’s profound love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The ride weaves through two significant spots, each holding a special place in the Ulicki family's heart. One of these spots is Mount Tom, nestled in Racine County, WI, where the Ulicki family hill-climbed until 1965. Uke would sponsor the Kenosha Motorcycle Club for the hill-climb at Mount Tom annually creating cherished memories.
The hill-climbing sport, a true test of skill and courage, epitomized excitement. With its 45-degree incline and 100-foot height, the climb was a formidable challenge. With their hearts pounding - climbers would navigate a 20-foot-wide course racing against time. The time aspect was nerve-wracking with a stopwatch operated by strings that would snap upon contact with the rider. Uke’s brother, CD’s job was to announce the hill-climb. Volunteers would then run across the hill to replace the string at the top and bottom for each race, adding to the thrill and suspense of the event. On their full-size motorcycles, the hill-climbers would strive to reach the top in the fastest time, creating a spectacle of speed and skill.
The second spot on the route, which also holds cherished memories for the Ulicki family, is the northwest corner of Schaal and Karcher Roads in Burlington, WI. This is where the Flying Disc Motorcycle Club, an AMA Club, would sponsor another annual hill-climbing event.
This ride, a testament to Uke's indomitable spirit, is a fitting tribute to a man who lived on a Harley-Davidson, never even owning a car. Uke’s life was a beautiful blend of Harley-Davidson and family, and this ride is a heartfelt way to honor his memory in a manner he would have cherished – with a ride!
